We had been talking about school starting. One of the main schools
in our area was starting, I felt a bit of that pressure. But another school
in the area was not starting yet....so we started and then started again.
Deveraux decorated the chalkboard, I think she was ready.
Clearly, I was not. Our room was definitely not in starting order for me.
But as my kids usually do, pushed me out of my comfort zone.
Deveraux decided on a yarn cutting ceremony and had me do
the honors of opening our "messy, not ready yet," room.
They are good for me!
We celebrated with cake pops!
Then I had some quiet time on a Sunday to plan a two week unit
on Little House in the Big Woods.
This is my kind of ready. No apologies, I love a clean organized ready
to go room. Our books on the shelf were subject organized and ready to go.
Take 2!
A bit of a tradition to present a new book at the beginning of the
school year and a little fabric made heart for Dev. She used to carry
one to school I made her during first grade on her hard days.
The stage is set.
School pics!
Last years Math books, we are done with those!
LOVE when they are working and focused!!!
Dev made a little arrangement....she loves things like a name tag.
A class pet...we have lizards all around.
Snack time...spam musubi, a favorite local treat.
I could not even pronounce these snacks when I first heard
the name at a volleyball tournament. I was volunteering
working the snack bar at when I was a school counselor. So
new to the island and new to so many things.
Fast forward. I did not imagine my two eating these treats.
Once again, I find myself in new territory,
still challenged, still growing, and glad to be exactly
where I am with these two.
Here is to a new school year!!
