More Water Adventures

Paddle Imua.
What was significant for this race for me
was that Bobo did it without an escort.
At 9 to Paddle over 2 hours takes some discipline!
And the top of his paddle broke during the race.

Ands an extra bonus that Kai Lenny was there racing.

And Bobo's friend Johnny.

One day I was loading up the car from surfing and I saw Kai’s Rapter.  I knew it was his because because that is the only Rapter I had seen.  I thought, “Is that Kai’s?”  Then right as we are leaving, I see Kai and Ryan Johnson coming from a driveway.  My dad says, “Hey Kai, can my son have a picture with you?”  I was kind of embarrassed but I really wanted to meet him because I was obsessed with him.  I always wondered when we would meet him and sometimes when there were opportunities to meet him, I didn't.  But really it was the best place to meet him because I wasn’t standing in a line with 50 people waiting to get an autograph.  My dad “worked” Kai as he told Kai all about me and how I did the Maui to Molokai. Kai asked me what sports did I do.  I didn’t say anything as I was super starstruck.  My dad just answered all the questions.  I only answered when my dad went to go get the phone and I had to answer.  I realized there were 9 questions you should memorize before meeting Kai Lenny.  At the end of our time, Kai said, “We should go foil sometime.”  I again felt so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so starstruck.

So on a normal school day. my mom took me to Sugar Cove.  Kai was a bit late, but it was okay.  So Kai and I go at Kuau and as we foiled down the coast for 45 minutes and then we caught a wave into Sugar Cove Beach by his house, it was fun!

At his house, Kai signed my 6’0” Jerry Lopez short board  that I got at High Tech that was Kai’s old board.  It was funny when Kai sprayed me with the hose as we were washing our boards off.  If we would have met Kai at an event, he probably would have thought, “Oh another kid.’  There are are couple million kids there.  And I wouldn’t have gotten recognized by him if we hadn’t met him on his street without knowing it.  So the time you think something is going to happen isn’t always the time it happens and it can actually be better in waiting.   This would be something I would love to do again.

See you on the water, Kai!  (By Bobo)

Too went out with them and graciously took
pictures and was so excited about the whole
experience. She knew Kai when he was little
and was so supportive and encouraging as
Bobo begins his path.

(kai storing his board in our car).

Pretty cool to surf with your hero.
