Each month from our church, we are given a flyer telling us verses and themes each week. There is also a suggested activity to do as a family, there are some great ideas. I hope to do many of them. This was the first one we have done and it is the story of the Prodigal Son who leaves his father and uses up all his money and is reckless in his living. The son decides to return home to beg of mercy and to be treated as a servant in his fathers house. Instead, the father seeing his son runs to him, embraces him, and throws him a party. Like the son, we go astray, pretty much everyday. Still God because He is God and is Love embraces us everyday and throws us a party because he loves us!
We made banners, baked a cake and played games. With kids it is so cool, because it takes very little to get them into it. They love a celebration and providing an activity gives more color and permanence to a story. Plus, it was great to enjoy a shared activity as a family.
