It's officially Summer!

I feel as though our official summer began in June 24th when
we returned home from vacation.
It has been a good summer at home!
It is like a rite of passage to clean Dev's closet when summer begins!

On this day we hit the Benefit shops (like Goodwill)
and found a couple of treasures.  I loved this chair,
but was feeling like I could not spend the money after
returning from vacation.  So Bobo said, "I will buy it!"
Thanks Bobo!!
Headed to the library to get signed up for
the Summer Reading Program!

Much to our surprise Deveraux was able to
sign up for her first library card.  Really big deal,
she feels very responsible as she keeps track of her
books in her purse with her card.  And she boasts
of no fines yet!!!
It has been the kind of summer we had growing up, full of play!
I feel as though I am giving my kids a gift.
I think there is a time you realize your freedom,
probably around Deveraux's age.
As Andrew says, when Bobo asks for a cookie....
"bobo, your life is a cookie".  In other words, he doesn't
know how good he has it!  For Deveraux she has now
tasted school, more responsibility, and can have a bit
more of an idea of what freedom feels like.
There is a short window from when you realize your
freedom and when you cannot fully live in the freedom of summer days.

Spruced up the porch a bit....

I have only heard maybe once or twice that Deveraux is bored....
A friend told me, when a child says they are bored that is when
imagination will happen.  Sure enough, the day Deveraux told
me then led into a great fort building day.
Skating is a main event in the summer, every day
that we are home, skates come out!

Another gift I feel being given my kids is time with
one another.  When it is just the two of them, they
play together.  I am grateful most days it is just the two
of them.  They have been playmates.  Fighting, yes...
but mostly playing, creating, negotiating, and working things out.
I feel these days are hopefully paving the way for a
life long friendship.

We said good-bye to McKenna, a dear friend from Bible
study, off on an adventure to Korea with her family.
She will be missed!
A find....a table for $35.00 at Last Chance Mercantile.
I have been wanting a bigger table to share our table with others.
It needs some work, but thanks to Young, her eye spotted a great table.
Bonny, a dear friend, welcomed her sweet
new baby boy to the world.
I love when Dev gets our her paints!

We had a stretch of beautiful warm days.  Our summer in
Carmel does not usually have typical summer temperatures,
summer weather usually comes in September with Indian Summer.

He looks to Dev a lot

We went to Del Monte beach, a good spot for
getting in the water!  There were so many people.
It makes you realize, people come to the beach when it is
warm. I love that our weather is often cooler so the beaches are
 never crowded.

Good beach time!

Playmates.
There are times when Deveraux takes on a leadership role with other
children, she is really patient and does a great job.

This summer, Bobo is riding fast!
No training wheels and he just cruises!
I feel he has found more freedom with skates and biking.
So thankful for the cul-de-sac we live on and the freedom he
can experience and use all that energy!

The kids won a drawing at the library.  So we headed to a little
bookstore in our area and they each had $20.00 to spend.

Bobo chose a book on the history of the
Monterey Fire Department
Dev chose three chapter books.
Carmel Valley Pool
Our second summer of the diving board!
Yeah Summer!!!
