Yeah America!

Happy Fourth of July 2013!
I wasn't sure what our day would look like as I had
been sick leading up to the Fourth, but I wanted to
celebrate.  There was a parade in Monterey so when
we woke up, we headed downtown!

Nothing like a fire truck to start the parade!

He loves the coast guard

We realized we were standing across the street from
Joy, Ben, Emeline, and Elijah, and Ben's parents.

Next stop was the Cooper Molera adobe house
in downtown Monterey.  It was a step back in time,
a fun way to celebrate the 4th!  Dev was making a homemade tortillas.

Making butter

Grinding corn into cornmeal....

making a ring from a nail
Stilts!

It was tricky at first, but fun to try and get the hang of it.

Making a rope....
three strands into one

dancing!  I love how Joy's family just jumps in!
I also felt well taken care of by them as they paid for our
lunch and admission.
Next we took a tour of the home.
This is a historical home of one of the first families
in Monterey.  Young and Eugene met up with us!

Simple toys
Time for stilts again!

pounding leather and making imprints

They made another rope....we learned
ropes were important for the sailing vessels

So we came home from Monterey, had some dinner,
and we headed downtown.  We just could not be home
on the 4th of July night.

Had to head to the beach!

That black spot is a dolphin
We felt like we had our own fireworks show!

photo bombing our husband and wife picture!

Then I wanted to drive scenic drive on the way home.
There were so many beach fires!  It was really cool!
The second third "fireworks" show!

We let the kids ride hanging out of the sun roof.

They were so happy to be yelling out, and saying hi
as we passed people in our van.  It is one of those moments that
you just love giving to your kids, even if we were a little
worried of seeing a police car.
They could not believe their good fortune.
We came home just in time to see fireworks on T.V.
A great fourth of July!
