Pop tarts, a market, the Holocaust, and a big White House (#3)!

Our usual gathering in the lobby before
we start the day to have our breakfast sandwiches.

Oh yes, the girls are riding in a taxi.

I had read about Ted's Bulletin and so we had
to go check out the homemade pop tarts!

Yummy!

Dev's pick was to check out the Eastern Market.
We like to ask our kids what they want to
do on trips and involve them in our planning.
Dev actually did research before the trip
on line and had her list.

There was an indoor market and an outdoor
area.  Dev and I always are on the lookout
for cool décor finds.

Books all the way to the top...this reminded me of our
pre-kids days when Andrew and I would step into
this "sub culture" of independent used book stores.
Fun new experience...just so very hot!
Holocaust Museum next.
Sabbath.
Over one and a half million children died.
A school gone everyday for 8 years.
Staggering.  staggering.
Bobo was ready to get a gun and fight
the Germans.
There is a section for kids in the museum
that is narrated by a child who survived
the holocaust.  It was so well done.
The Torah
Generations of families.

Shoes.  One of the most disturbing but poignant...making
it very real displays.
The little girl who wore these shoes died.
I could not help but think of our little girl.
Our children had a tough time going to sleep that
evening.  But we felt it was time and okay to
begin introducing them slowly to the painful
things of this world.  Of course. we did not expose
them to all the images in the museum, but
they definitely walked away knowing the truth.
Next up was the American History Museum.

Some hanging out time.  When you are seeing and
taking in so much, it is good to stop and just hang
for a bit.

Oh yes, the ruby slippers!!
Very cool artifacts!
Including Elmo!

and we found Abe....

Doing a little exercise as we walk.
Our kids loved the White House.

It is one big lawn!

And this is their view from the white house windows.

Maybe you can live there one day baby!

Its us!
We couldn't take a tour because they have to be booked
three weeks in advance.  We just made up for it by
taking lots of pictures on the outside.
I loved walking in the evening back to our
hotel.  We were all pretty tired but in a
city there is so much to look at.
The Capital is so pretty at night.  I love looking
down a street and seeing these iconic buildings.
