My Birthday Letter

Dear me,

Don’t be so hard on yourself.  Your kids will turn out alright.  You don’t have to cover all the bases.  What is important will rise to the top.

Don’t forget to laugh.  Take time to be silly, roll around on the carpet, and play airplane with your kids.  Enjoy them.  Not every moment has to be be teachable.  And remember all parts of you, not just the serious task oriented mom.

And remember who you were apart from your kids, keep taking time and pull away to take stock, write, pray, and be for it nourishes your soul.

Stay in your lane.  You weren’t the only one to not get the invite, not everyone else is at the party, everything is not personal, and some things just may be resolved in heaven.  Try not to read into peoples actions too much and take it too far.

It is important to cling to what is good, count your blessings daily, and take a break from what ails you.

Get outside, get a fresh perspective, talk to someone who loves you, and do all those things quicker than you want to or feel like doing.

Self examination is good but must go further than just insight.  We always have the opportunity to grow and choose life (and death).  SO choose life.

One day can make all the difference.  So hang in there if it is not a good one.

Keep engaging even when its hard.  I wish I could say I have gotten over all the weebles and wobbles at 47 and those things that trip me up, but often they don’t seem to trip me up for as long or I can recognize and name them for what they are and their power dissipates.

Keep fighting the good fight.  There are no guarantees for anything.  Do the best you can, surround yourself with people in your corner, seek beauty and truth, Love your people forgive and move on.

Remind yourself who you belong to and how much He loves you.  For he has been with you all along and He will keep your soul.
