Making Connections

Picture moments!

My Uncle, being a pilot.

Watching paddling in CO...

So what a fun night.  Carrie gathered college friends
to catch up on the last 20 years of our life!
It was a special night.

So good to hear Margo sing again, a
friend and college roomate.

Sweet Aunt Dot
We need to get us some culture!
We headed to the Byers Evans House in downtown
Denver.  Starting a tradition of trying to go to a
museum each visit.

The Byer-Evens House
A cold Monday found us all bundled up at the Byer-Evens house, which was very interesting and enjoyable, I learned a lot about kitchen tools, photographs, telephones, radios, record players, vintage vacuums, and even a loom.  We also got to see a lot of cool decor like art deco wallpaper, china, pictures, games, and furniture. I think the most memorable thing was that I got to wind up the record player which sounded so so cool and I loved imagining all of my favorite characters dancing to the music.

The Byers–Evans house was built in 1883 by William Byers, the founder of the Rocky Mountain News and was sold to William Gray Evans in 1889.

It is an Italianate style house which had several additions made to it over the years. Which makes It very big, beautiful, and sprawling.

William Evans lived in the home with his wife Cornelia Lunt Gray and their four children, John, Josephine, Margaret and Katharine. William's mother, Margaret Patten Gray Evans, former first lady of Colorado, moved into the home in 1900 with her unmarried daughter, Anne Evans.

“Members of the Evans family continued to live in the home until 1981.The house was donated to the Colorado Historical Society also in 1981, along with the entire contents of the house. The house has been restored to the 1912–1924 period and includes approximately 90% of the original furniture, glassware, china, and other household items belonging to the Evans family.” With my love of old things and houses, I really enjoyed the tour and getting to try the record player and the vintage vacuum were highlights.

The Art Museum

Ireland salted and old world fresh potato chips were in front of us at the table as we ate smoked salmon, blue cheese burgers and hot wings at a authentic Irish pub, then we headed to the Denver Modern Art Museum with exhibits focused on animals and Native Americans.  After stopping to put our jackets into lookers we headed to the Remember Renoir print room I participated in Mono Printing and Relief Printing, it was super cool and I got to take home a couple of fun prints.

We began to walk the museum, first we headed to the Animal exhibit, it was interesting to see all the different styles of art and how me and my family chose our favorites. It was also cool to see the different mediums used by the artists, one of the most creative to me was three horse statues made from driftwood. My favorite piece was a picture of a couple and their dog made out of plastics.

The Denver Art Museum — DAM is an art museum located in the Civic Center of Denver, Colorado. The museum is one of the largest art museums between the West Coast and Chicago. It is known for its collection of American Indian art, and its other collections of more than 70,000 diverse works from across the centuries and world. The museum's origins can be traced back to the founding of the Denver Artists Club in 1893. The Club renamed itself the Denver Art Association in 1917.

It was kind of funny, we were very excited to go to the museum and mom was telling us about how she used to go there with her mom, who was an art teacher, but then she realized it didn’t look very familiar so we checked the maps and realized we were in the Modern Art Museum when we thought we we were in the normal one. Overall the art museum was not a favorite, but It was cool to see.
