Road trip to Vicksburg!

Ready for the day, leaving the hotel lobby, had to
try out the cool phone.

When in the South, you best stop at Cracker Barrel!

 Vicksburg National Military Park

A boy and his cannon.

And then this happened....

The most beautifully acoustic room I have ever been in.

We went and got Andrew and just sang for awhile.
Lovin the sounds of our voices!
The state of Illinois monument.

(kids taking photos- I love it.)

Its fun to go on a hunt for historical sights, even
if they are closed once you arrive.

We met Andrew's cousin who is the sheriff in
Vicksburg, we were feeling pretty special.
It was fun to hang out in his office and learn a
bit about his life.

A great day in Vicksburg, taking it all in!

 Vicksburg National Military Park

Vicksburg National Military Park preserves the site of the American Civil War Battle of Vicksburg, fought from March 29 to July 4, 1863. The park, is located in Vicksburg on the Mississippi River and commemorates the Vicksburg Campaign (owning Vicksburg) which led up to the battle of Vicksburg. Victory here and at Port Hudson, farther south in Louisiana, gave the Union control of the Mississippi River.

Vicksburg National Military Park has many monuments, I gathered this next bit of information from Wikipedia. “The park includes 1,325 historic monuments and markers, 20 miles of historic trenches and earthworks, a 16-mile sightseeing road, a 12.5-mile walking trail, 144 emplaced cannons, the restored gunboat USS Cairo (sunk 1862, on the Yazoo River), and the Grant's Canal site.”

One monument In particular, the Illinois State Memorial has 47 steps, one for every day Vicksburg was besieged I especially liked the Illinois monument because it had amazing acoustics and because it was made of marble and gold trim it was also very beautiful. It was cool to see the black soldiers monument with those freed slaves standing tall. I loved how Vicksburg National Military Park was a driving park which meant I just got to sit next to the window and hang out while we covered a lot of ground. I really enjoyed our time there.
