The Statue Of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is America’s prized possession, and and it very well could be one of the seventh wonders of the world because everyone knows Lady Liberty.

Located on an island, Liberty Island, off of New York City, this beautiful statue was a thank you gift from France because America helped them with fighting in the 1778 war.  It is also a symbol of freedom for immigrants as they pass to go to neighboring Ellis Island.

I gathered this next bit of information from Wikipedia “The copper statue, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886. The Statue of Liberty is a figure of Libertas, a robed Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed in Roman numerals with "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (July 4, 1776), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken chain lies at her feet as she walks forward. The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, a national park tourism destination.”

Liberty Island was originally a fort for the military, when France wanted to send this statue to the U.S.A. and decided they would like to put it on liberty island.  The U.S.A. gave its permission.

France sent lady library in five parts and the U.S.A. made the pedestal of which she stands.  Fundraising for the pedestal was difficult because not everyone believed it was important and by “1885 work on the pedestal was threatened by lack of funds. Publisher Joseph Pulitzer, of the New York World, started a drive for donations to finish the project and attracted more than 120,000 contributors, most of whom gave less than a dollar.”

When we went to The Statue Of Liberty, I was in awe I never thought that Lady Liberty would be so tall.   As we listened to the park ranger talk about the architecture of Lady Liberty we saw Manhattan disappear in fog and then standing on the pedestal you could hardly see anything and it was very drizzly.
We thank France for this amazing, wonderful, and all around incredible gift.

We all need a shot in front of this iconic statue!

She called her, "Lady", and she had great
affection for Lady.

Ellis Island

We lost Bobo for a short time on Ellis Island, good thing
it is an island!

We stopped by a half price ticket booth,
and we scored!  Thank you Drew/Dada!!!

One of the things I love about cities...
you stop for Broadway tickets and there just so
happens to be a park and then you grab food
across the street from the park.
Something around every corner!

Bobo getting in on Broadway!

We are pumped!  And we may have, Stick it to the Man",
playing in our heads on repeat!
Almost midnight on Times Square!
Someone else had an evening bus tour
of NYC with her daddy!
