Oregon Coast. Day 38 (Seaside)

So the kids woke up to Hostel life, washing dishes.
Andrew had read that the Seaside Hostel was a good one,
so why not.  I came back from my run to find these two
washing dishes.  Part of hostel life is you clean up after
yourself.  They had pancake mix and eggs available and
my husband made me a great pancake!
Deveraux loved it here.  There were some kids next door
who she started to play with.  They felt the freedom of being
able to run around which they have missed some on the trip.

They had kayak's to rent and take out just behind the hostel.

Before we took off, Bobo got his feet adjusted to the mud!

We were the only ones on the water, it was nice.
A little rain but not too bad.

We let them out at one point and then picked them up,
they thought that was very fun!

This is the back of our hostel.

Next up in our activity day was renting bikes.
We walked to the bike rental place and took
off for the Prom (a path they call the promenade in Seaside).

We tried out a tandem bike, at first it was really difficult
to steer with Andrew behind me.  We switched, it was different not having
control of the handlebars and the pedals, but then I got the hang of it.
I told Andrew we were an active family today!

Then I got back to steering and it was easier.
Although, Andrew was a trooper with me at the
wheel, one time I took us up on the curb and we
almost tipped over and one time I almost ran into
a woman on the path!

One thing I really wanted to do was paint at a pottery
studio with Deveraux.  When I was running I found a
a studio and knew I wanted to take Dev back.  So we
headed there and my idea was to have Deveraux paint
our family as I had done when I was seven on a plate.
Well our time was a bit difficult.  Deveraux found it
hard to draw us and then she just maxed out because
she was hungry.  By that time, Bobo had been dropped
off to me and we were going to meet Drew for dinner at a
sports bar for the LSU game.  They were closing and
the only time she was firing the kiln was that night and
so we would be able to pick it up the next morning,
so I felt a certain pressure.  So not one of those
"best times ever" but we were both happy with the
result that we picked up the masterpiece!
The three of us had fun in the downtown killing some
time before meeting up with Andrew.

I enjoy hanging out with these two sillies.
We joined up with Andrew who had found
a restaurant with his own T.V.!  But we had
to watch LSU lose.  Deveraux wanted to
walk back to the hostel, about a mile.  I felt
weary but a walk sounded good.  As Andrew
followed us in the van, stopping every so often
and waiting by the road, I was able to let Dev
know that this is the kind of man she needs to marry!
