Olympic National Park. Day 20

Heading out from Port Angeles to Explore Olympic National Park
A familiar scene of loading up the car.

Hurricane Ridge, first stop in the park.
Beautiful!

Mt. Anderson!

Deveraux and I watched a film about the National Park
and then joined the boys for a little picnic.
We then walked a short distance exploring.

We found snow! Bobo was so excited!
Andrew pointed out Victoria on the other side of Puget Sound.
Bobo told me he had good "bounce", he meant balance.

helping her brother to see in the window of the
"rescue" cabin.

Bobo did not want to leave because of the snow and then
wanted to go back the next day.  We solved the dilemma
by taking some snow in a cup.  True to personality,
Deveraux tried saving her snow and put it in the cooler
and Bobo had his all over his lap down the mountain.

Next stop, Marymere Falls

It is tough sometimes on hikes when you have a destination
in mind, like a waterfall, and our kiddos love to climb
on every cool fallen log they see.  It is a balance between
stopping and pressing on.  On this day, we had two falls
we wanted to see so we kinda had to hustle to make them
happen before night fall.

Two of our new "techniques" for getting up or down:
Deveraux acts as "station master."  She commands different
posts with treats. It provides a certain motivation for movement.
Number 2: chasing each other on the path.  This is fun,
exciting, and a bit dangerous, but we have had only one spill.

A treat on the way back, 3 deer, one was a baby!

On our way to the last falls in the park, we drove
by Crescent Lake.
The reflection was amazing!

Soleduck Falls
Andrew and I had never seen water coming down a hill
that looked like this....

We were really into mushrooms on this hike.
We have noticed so many mushrooms.  We brought
our Naturalist book and learned how there are five
ways to identity mushrooms.  Deveraux had a lot of
fun identifying and Bobo loved spotting them.

We were definitely rewarded by these four waterfalls!
It really was magnificent!

Andrew told me when Bobo looked at the water
he said, "powerful."

A safety shelter
Deveraux and Bobo rolled around in the dirt in the
shelter, I believe pretending to be needing the shelter.
We made it and worked towards the light coming
through the trees.
We drove to our next hotel in Forks, Washington
We were definitely in our National Park mode,
eating food out of the cooler.  We were doing yogurts, lunch meat,
cheese sticks, and strawberries.
Beautiful day.
