Calvary Chapel, Monterey
So Calvary, Monterey. We were told by our friend, Michelle,
in Maui that we needed to check out Calvary because her
friend, Julie, from Middle school was heading up the children's
ministry. The first day, I talked with Julie (Andrew reminding me of the
connection) and we decided to stay at Calvary.
Well Julie became a friend (she was the one who took the kids to
Peter Pan the night we were grieving dad) and joined the study in
our home. About a year and half ago I asked Julie about kids worship,
just because I was curious. She then told me to think about leading worship.
I was not planning on that....of course I had been praying to find
a place to be used in my life. It wasn't always easy leading worship and
I often felt vulnerable and that I wasn't right for the job...(I didn't play
the guitar well enough) or that life felt full enough, and often I did not prepare
as I should have.
But, the kids showed up and we would get started and it would be good.
I enjoyed seeing them looking back at me, hearing their voices, and seeing them as The Church.
It was great to hear that they would sing the songs during the
week. I so believe in the power of worship for these little's and I remember
learning Bible stories and verses through song when I was growing up in church.
I loved that my kids were a part and Deveraux by my side almost every Sunday.
I don't always know the way music is going to show up in my life
in each season, but I know it is a part of me and I will continue to
open the space for it to be.
This is what I would look out to every Sunday morning.
Yeah Sunday School!
After worship in the big room, I would go in with the littler ones and sing.
yummy coffee
Deveraux's Sunday School teacher. He really taught the
kids the Word and I believe this is what prompted Deveraux to
want an older kids Bible that she could bring to church to follow along.
Thanks Calvary....we are grateful!!
