they learned piano, voice, guitar, sign language, ukulele,
hip hop, and hula.
Cambria again, star of the show. 'We"
were scolded by taking kiddos attention.
Bobo wanted to do hula, so he and one
other boy performed in the hula dance.
I find Cambria softens hearts. I saw through
one little boy who was getting in trouble
for being disruptive take to Cambria and
then that built a road for me to engage with him.
Most kids just want to be talk and be
listened to.
The camp was held in a church 5 minutes from our house.
Dev really wanted a solo and she got one! She sang a
section from "I love the way you Love me."
I loved this moment with my three and the voice teacher.
She told Bobo he had a gift in his voice. I hope he heard those words.
Lots and lots and lots of
practicing.
Things like this just touch my heart. The end of camp they had
a raffle, Bobo had been waiting all day and there he was
in the front row, its the stuff that makes your heart hurt.
We had a "Hawaii" experience of making head accessories
out of Ti-leaf's for the kids to wear in the
upcoming music performances.
They are a lot harder than it looks, this sweet
aunty gave me the one she made for Dev,
I was pretty excited!
He got busy making sandals.
The first performance for the full weekend
was outside at the Factory Outlet stores
in downtown Lahaina.
Waiting for his solo.
Bobo sang a verse from "The Creed" by Hillsong. The
voice teacher wanted him to sing it high, she said he would
fit right in at the Vienna Boys Choir.
Cambria enjoying Auntie Catherine and Uncle Lance.
Sabbath that evening.
I was busy trying to put together a wrist/ankle
piece for Bobo.
Being silly with Kimberly trying on my new dress.
Ready for the parade.
The next morning we headed back to Lahaina for the
King Kamehameha parade.
Elvis was there!
I looked at my friend at the start of the parade as we were
walking alongside the kids and said, 'We are those moms."
The traditional Hawaii guy with the conch shell and...Elvis!
here we go
It was a bit warm but the kids did great!
Had to get Cambria in the picture as this was her first parade!
Practicing for the evening performance.
Hip was first up...this was the Saturday evening performance
at the church.
Dev danced Hula so beautifully,
I really hope she will do more. She has been
resistant to dance class but I think this experience
taught her the value of chorography and
she loved the dance rotations.
Bobo made us smile during Hula. He didn't
know that dance perfectly but that didn't matter
to him. He did it with heart. Bobo wanted to
quit music camp several times. The biggest
drawback to camp was the lack of
healthy and good classroom management.
Often, yelling was the recourse taken
to get kids in line and attentive.
Bobo did not like that atmosphere,
but we asked him to hang in there. He also
received new shoes (pictured with the Ti leaf
accessory...which Bobo said looked a little
weird and I said no, you need to wear it.
I am sure he would not have said that
if aunty made his! wink!) Great shoes
can be a good motivator. But I know he would
say he was glad he hung in there.
A Father's day prayer that evening from
the pastor of the church.
Next morning. we attended the church
for their service, it was Father's Day.
Dev got to sing an extra solo for the Hula.
I love when Bobo would do this big "dip"
and then raise his hands.
"Go big or go home!"
Asleep in the midst of voices and drums...
New experiences Rock!
Exposure to new things and realizing what you like
and don't like. Being around others and then coming
home and discussing it has been good. It gives us
a framework to talk. Our classroom is protected in
good ways and so exposure to new things is noticed
and discussed because it stands out to our kids.
It was a good break for me and I have been
plowing through our family blog! Thankful
for the time to catch up which means a lot
to me to be current in our life as I blog.
And we are now in the midst of another camp!
